This John Arden hybrid was made using Vriesea ensiformis and Vriesea regina. In 1995 the genus Alcanterea was resurrected and includes the larger Vriesea species, including Vr. regina. Therefore the cross is now - Vriesea ensiformis X Alcanterea regina.  Blooming plants are 4-5 feet tall and 2.5 feet wide. The individual branches of the inflorescence are sword shaped with red floral bracts and yellow petals.
