Tillandsia tomasellii was published in 1979, but was synoymized with Tillandsia xerographica in 1984 (Gardner). We have always considered it separate and different from the T. xerographica from Guatemala and have propagated ours from offsets. We are offering a few offsets from our original plants which were from Oaxaca, Mexico.
These are very differ from Tillandsia xerographica, not only geographically, but they have long flowing leaves, tall heavily branched inflorescence with orange-red coloring. It grows in an area of Oaxaca which is rich with natural hybrids. I have seen these hybridize with Tillandsia fasciculata and with Tillandsia huamelulaensis.
