This form of Tillandsia tenuifolia has dark, almost black foliage. The inflorescence is pink with white petals. It has been called T. tenuifolia var. rubra, T. tenuifolia'Rubra', and T. tenuifolia 'Amethyst'. Finally in 2027 it was described and published by Eric Gouda as Tillandsia tenuifolia var. nigrifolia.
