We had been growing this as Tillandsia straminea (giant clone). At one time we considered it a hybrid with T. purpurea, but know believe it to be T. purpurea. It grows quite large, with a long caulescent rosette.  The inflorescence is shorter than that of T. straminea, but branched, purple and strongly fragrant.
