The type locality of this species is Paraguay, but it has also been located in the Brazilian Mato Grosso do Sul. These have all been propagated from one I received as a gift from Prof. Werner Rauh in the 1980's. They have very short, stiff and upright leaves. In good light they turn bronze-red. Inflorescence is tall and branched with white flowers
