A very popular Billbergiaj species, not only for it's striking appearance but also for hybridizing. It was introduced into cultivation by Bob Whitman in the mid '80's. Collected near the town of 'Domingos Martins' it was described as a new species - Bill. domingosmartinsis. Later it was determine to be a cultivar of Billbergia vittata, and registered as Billbergia vittata 'Domingos Martins'.
It grows into an upright tubular shape, with dark spines on the leave edges. The foliage is banded and will develop plenty of white blotching.
